Welcome to Volunteer Kalamazoo

Times have changed, volunteers have changed and the needs of the community have changed. The Volunteer Center of Greater Kalamazoo has also changed. We have evolved. Recently, the Volunteer Center of Greater Kalamazoo announced that the organization has changed its name to Volunteer Kalamazoo, leveraging our national affiliation with the HandsOn Network and expanding our efforts to promote greater civic engagement and increased volunteerism in the community.

The new brand better reflects who we are, with a proactive, action-oriented and refreshed approach that embodies our continuing history of innovative ideas and services. The launch of the Volunteer Kalamazoo brand culminates an organization transformation that has been taking shape over several years. Volunteer Kalamazoo became a HandsOn Network Affiliate in 2008, which initiated alignment with action centers in more than 250 communities across the country.

Since the mid-60’s, Volunteer Kalamazoo has served as a clearinghouse for volunteers- a place where individuals could find civic engagement opportunities and where nonprofit organizations could locate volunteers for their programs. Over the past 45 years, hundreds of thousands of volunteers and individuals have contacted us for information and referral services.

We continue that important work of our founders today, generating more than 16,000 volunteer referrals the past year and connecting individuals through effective use of technology to the community’s needs. We also now provide capacity building training and services to organizations and individuals who want to make a difference volunteering their time in service to their community.

Although our logo and name may have changed, the power to serve and enrich the Greater Kalamazoo community remains the same.
